500 Rowing Challenge
To celebrate 500 days until the London 2012 Olympics the Sports Council launched the ‘500 Rowing Challenge’. All tutor bases had to use the Indoor Rowing Machines to see how far they could row in 8 minutes and 20 seconds (the equivalent to 500 seconds). Two new Rowing Machines were funded through a £1500 grant from The Rowing Foundation due to the links and work we have done with Derby Rowing Club over the last two years. The machines were used to complete the challenge, and all tutor bases successfully took part.
The results are shown in the table below with the overall winner with a magnificent 2000 metres was Mr Frost/ Mrs Grant and Mrs McNamee’s tutees. Many congratulations to all the students who took part.
The distance to the London Olympic Village from Landau Forte College Derby is 204.71 km (127.28 miles).
At the moment the College has managed to Row a total of 39.7miles. Look out for others ways we will be celebrating significant milestones in the countdown to the Olympic opening ceremony by participating in other activities to reach the London Olympic Village.
