Out of Darkness - July 2008 - Royal Opera House |
|
The Royal Opera House project ‘Creative Exchange’ involves 9 Academies, from across the nation. Over the past few months, 30 of our students have taken part in workshops with a professional Composer and Chorographer from The Royal Opera House exploring the theme ‘Wild Earth’. ‘Out of Darkness’ explores the creation of life on Earth. Ever since the ‘Big Bang’ the universe has been a wild, swirling cosmic storm of star dust. From this star dust and chaos the Earth formed. Life soon followed with the wildness of the ‘Big Bang’ still resonating in all of us. In the beginning there was darkness In the beginning there was space The universe without a body The universe without a face In the beginning there was order An endless vacuum full of time A universe without its chaos A universe without its crime Then out of darkness there came light And out of order there came chaos And out of peace a violent space A universe expanding outward A universe a violent place A swirling cosmic storm of plasma A place of turbulence and strife When on a spinning sphere of stardust There came the miracle of life Then out of darkness there came life
